REMINDER FOR RIDERS:

Group ride participajnts must have previously attended an OBC Group Riding Clinic (GRC).

                       https://ottawabicycleclub.ca/group-riding-clinics/

This year, starting with the April 20th ride, the GRCs will be scheduled coincident with Sunday rides for the first several weeks of the season; that is, starting from the same place at the same time.

Is your bike ship-shape? Are you carrying basic tools and equipment? Be sure all the critical components -- brakes, drive train; tires -- are in good shape and thus ensure that your bike won't be inclined to leave you in tears at the side of the road. On all club rides (in fact, whenever you ride), please carry, minimally, a spare tube, tire levers, air pump (or equivalents for tubeless). Having bright, day-time running lights (front & back) is also a really good idea to improve your visibility to other road users.

Keep an eye out for trash, rocks, sand, gravel, etc. on the roads, especially rounding corners. It's unlikely that the street sweepers will be out tout de suite, so Spring requires special attention to the road surface.

On to the ride...

This week, to accommodate the Group Riding Clinic and also as a trial for a possible "permanent" change, we're launching from a school a short distance south of the traditional Sobey's Plaza, along Trim Rd.

All RWGPS Sunday Orleans routes start from Trim Rd & Innes Rd, thus all routes departing the school will head north on Trim Rd, then right turn on Innes Rd at which point GPS navigation will kick-in.

Orleans launches are relatively new but we've found some amazing routes to date, on both sides of the river (including ferry crossings) and keep exploring for more. They will get more interesting, and more hilly for some, through the season.

Bonne route!

Routes:

A Ride: 114km CW  114km CCW

A loop including Rockland, Plantagent and Bourget. Scenic roads combined with segments through woodlands. Ride leaders choice of CW (down the steep hill on Baseline Rd) or CCW (up the steep hill). If an additional ~5km is desired, tack on a horsehoe to the Ottawa River between Jessups Falls and Plantagenet (not in the GPS file but easy to spot on the map).

28-30 / 31-33 / 34+ km/h

B Ride: 90km  Rockland-Pendleton-Bourget-Hammond

A very pleasant country ride is in store. Along the very pretty Wilhaven Dr, then turning north to skirt Rockland and cycle Old Montrreal Rd along the river. Turn south through a forest towards Pendleton. A turn west will get yoy to Bourget and a grocery store stop (Hammond, ahead has a cafe). Carry on to Hammond and stop at the Grab n Go multi-purpose business, if you wish. Then it's back to the barn via Vinette and French Hill Rd.

25-27 / 28-30 km/h

C Ride: 69km   Clarence Ck / Bourget / Hammond

A very pleasant ride along Wilhaven Drive; once of the prettiest cycling roads in the area. Continue through Clarence Ck, then south to Bourget (grocery store stop, if desired). Turn west then north to Hammond (Proper coffee stop at a multi-purpose, Grab n Go business). Then return via Vignette. One 25m section of gravel.

22-24 / 25-27 km/h

D Ride: 48km  Hammond

A pleasant, out-and-return to introduce you to the pleasant cycling roads in the area. A newly discovered coffee stop awaits in Hammond. Ask for Justin at the Grab n Go.

20-22 / 22-24 kmh

*Group composition will depend on having a Ride Leader, and interest for specific Distance/Speed combinations, as determined by who shows up at the start point.
